What a Day What a Day

All I can say is what a DAY! I had been planning on entering the Phillip’s Mill Photography Exhibit but life gets so busy, I lost the paperwork and forgot all about the show.

This past week I was at work catching up with my good friend Sierra and she asked if I was entering the show. I told her I had forgot all about it, and so began the rest of my CRAZY week!

I started to think about images that I could enter, and as soon as I got off work I raced home to begin my search. I filled my hallway with photos, which I’m sure you have seen on my previous post. By the end of the night I was so overwhelmed with the images that I had discovered, and I ended up going to bed…leaving me clueless and 2 days away from the due date. And now is probably a good time to mention that even though I’m 2 days from March 4th I had to work all Thursday…11 hours; which left me no time to finalize anything, leaving me with one day to complete my project!

So now that we’re all caught up, I started my day by sleeping in and enjoying a fabulous breakfast, compliments of Mama. I wanted to wake up with a fresh mind so I could figure out what images to choose and take them to Romeo’s, (my framer). Of course for those of you who know me know that THAT did not happen. I probably sat and stared at my work for 2 hours deciding on an image. I wanted to use some of my images from a senior project I did at Columbia College Chicago and I had some matted one way and the rest matted another way so that decision alone took at least 45 minutes to decide on a set. I finally made a decision and started to clean my frames. Well don’t you know that my mats don’t fit in my frame!!!!! I was furious. So many things were going wrong with this project I started to have mental thoughts of quitting but I officially hit the breaking point of this project when I realized that my mats didn’t fit in my frames and I was refusing to spend more money on this project than I had to. I called up Sierra and told her I was out, I wished her the best of luck, and I told her I was beginning to plan my images for next year’s competition because I’m incapable of getting it together. So here’s another classic Courtney move. As soon as I publicly announced that I was quitting I had to continue. There was no way I could give up. By now it was almost noon; I still needed a shower and get to the framer so I could be at Phillip’s Mill by 5:00pm. I didn’t have time to wash my hair so I got half of a shower (I know, who does that?), hopped out of the shower and as I was doing my “wiggle dance” to get in my jeans I bent down and heard a huge cccrrrraaaaaaaaccccckkkkkkk! I can’t believe it! I am rushing so much that I just ripped my beautiful jeans!!! I was so mad, and I didn’t have the time so I threw on a long coat and ran out the door. I was short on time! I made it to Romeo’s, Dave got me all set up, my images looked beautiful and I was beginning to feel stress free. I made it through the rest of my afternoon gathering my info for the exhibit and headed over to the Mill. I originally planned on going with Sierra but I needed to get back early so I went on the journey alone. The drive was beautiful and the rest of my day went smoothly but all I can say it WHAT A DAY! Who thinks this much, gives up, keeps going, rushes so much that they ruin fabulous pants, which now means that I have to spend money on this darn project because I ruined my clothes! Crazy but good day!

Wish Sierra and I luck on getting in to the show. If we’re in book your calendars for June to come view our work.

Have a great weekend!

Time to Let Go......or Keep?

I started out on the hunt to find 4 images that I wanted to enter into a photo contest but as I searched I found more and more images. I captured what I could, but the truth is, these images only represent a SMALL fraction of the amount of images I truly have.

I wish I was able to let go of them, but I can't. I have photos that I've developed when I was 13 years old; some of the images aren't even that great but I can't let them go! I keep telling myself to pick an image and enter it but then I get hung up on the fact that I would be entering my "original" image....the final print....no back up print........so scary! (And yes of course I have the negative so it's really not the end of the world)

What to do, what to do...I just don't know.

To sell or hold on to?

Buttons and Ribbon's

I'm thinking of branching out and I'm going to start sewing! As much as I love photography, I can't escape that fact that I use my hands in life. Not only to push a button on a camera, but to sculpt, sew, cut, draw, and create whatever my mind thinks of. That's the beauty of art...the possibilities are endless!

I currently have a few pillows for sale...They are one of a kind and they won't last long. To purchase email me at cdhphoto@gmail.com

Afternoon Adventure

It was a FREEZING day, but I had off so I had to stay true to my resolution and I went outside to photograph. The sky was so beautiful and I couldn't help but take a dozen photos of the farm landscape with the light shining through the clouds. The rest of my journey led me into Boiling Springs, PA. I walked around the lake and found some rather friendly ducks. So there you have it....the daily treasures of Courtney!
